Cyclone Arnab in the Bay of Bengal has worsened into a ‘Very Severe Cyclonic Storm’. According to the latest bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), this severe cyclonic system will move in the west-northwest direction and pass near Bapatla and Visakhapatnam between the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Union Territory Yanam on the morning of October 28. During landfall, the sustained speed of sea wind is expected to be 115 to 125 kilometers per hour and the gust speed is expected to reach 140 kilometers per hour. Along with this, storm waves of 1.0 to 1.5 meters high are expected in the coastal areas, due to which low-lying residential areas of Kakinada and Yanam may be submerged. Educational institutions have been closed in six sensitive districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha and thousands of people from coastal settlements are being shifted to safe relief camps.
October 28 is going to be a very sensitive day for the coastal areas of South and Central India.
-

Due to the moist easterly winds coming from the Bay of Bengal, the weather in Bihar is going to take a complete turn from October 28. According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, on October 28, rain activities with gusty winds at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning will begin in the southern and eastern parts of the state—Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Nawada, Gaya, Katihar and Purnia. In the capital Patna, the cloud cover will deepen in the afternoon and light to moderate rain may be recorded. Meteorologists have warned that this effect of the cyclonic system will continue till October 31, due to which the maximum day temperature will drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in the coming days and the cold will increase rapidly.
The effect of the clouds of Cyclone ‘Arnab’ will start being visible in Uttar Pradesh from 28th October and it will intensify on 29th October.
-
Purvanchal and Terai Belt: On October 28, the sky will be densely cloudy in Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Ghazipur, Ballia and Gorakhpur and there will be isolated rain or thundershowers with strong winds at many places.
-
Central Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow and Kanpur): There will be a game of sun and shade during the day on October 28 in the capital Lucknow, Kanpur and Awadh region, but by the evening the layer of clouds will settle with cold easterly winds. Due to increase in humidity in the weather, the day temperature will drop by 2 to 3 degrees below normal. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy to extremely heavy rain in Purvanchal for October 29 and 30.
There will be no direct destructive impact of the cyclone in Delhi-NCR (Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad), but the impact of changes in the weather system will be felt. The sky may remain light to moderately cloudy in Delhi-NCR on October 28. Due to the interaction of mild western disturbance coming from the north-west and easterly winds of the cyclone, the wind speed can reach 15 to 25 km per hour. Due to this strong surface wind, there may be a slight reduction in air pollution and thick blanket of smog, due to which a slight improvement in AQI is expected. The maximum day temperature will be around 31 to 32 degrees Celsius and the night minimum temperature will fall to around 17 to 18 degrees Celsius, due to which the feeling of pink cold in the morning and late night will deepen.
In view of the severe impact of the cyclone on October 28, the disaster management departments of the respective states have issued special guidelines:
-
Protection of paddy and Kharif crops: Farmers of Bihar, Eastern UP and Vidarbha have been advised to remove the harvested paddy crop from open fields and keep it in safe warehouses or cover it with tarpaulin, so that the crop does not get damaged due to heavy rains and thunderstorms.
-
Disruption in traffic and flights: There may be changes or cancellation in the schedules of many trains and flights going to Andhra Pradesh (Vishakhapatnam, Vijayawada) and Odisha, so before leaving home, check the status of railways and airlines.
-
