It is extremely cold in North India at this time. On one hand it is raining heavily, while on the other hand cold wave, snowfall and dense fog have affected life. The mercury is continuously falling below zero in many states. The bone-chilling cold continues in many areas including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for the next 5 days i.e. till December 23. Let us know the weather condition across the country.
Cold havoc continues in North India
Madhya Pradesh:
- Pachmarhi: Minimum temperature 1.6 degree Celsius
- Shahdol: Minimum temperature 2 degree Celsius
Rajasthan:
- Karauli: Minimum temperature 1.3 degree Celsius
Punjab:
- Faridkot: Temperature 0 degree Celsius
Haryana:
- Hisar: Minimum temperature 1.6 degree Celsius
Jammu and Kashmir:
- Srinagar: Temperature -5.3 degrees Celsius
- Tangmarg (Baramulla): The 30 meter high Drang waterfall has completely frozen.
Due to the cold wave, severe cold is being felt in these states.
It will rain in these states
A low pressure area is formed in the south-west of the Bay of Bengal, due to which the cyclonic circulation is likely to increase towards the Tamil Nadu coast in the next 2 days.
Affected States:
- Winds with speed of 50-55 km per hour are likely in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
- Mahe, Yanam and Rayalaseema may receive light to moderate rain.
- There is an alert of heavy to very heavy rain in these states between 18 and 21 December.
Cold wave alert in next 5 days
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of cold wave in the following states till December 23:
- Himachal Pradesh
- Punjab
- Eastern Rajasthan
- Jammu and Kashmir
- Ladakh
- western rajasthan
- Haryana
- Chandigarh
- Madhya Pradesh
- Telangana
Effect of fog:
- Dense fog may occur in the morning and evening in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and East Rajasthan.
- Ground frost conditions are likely to occur in some areas of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
Delhi-NCR weather update
Along with the cold wave, smog and air pollution have also increased in Delhi and surrounding areas.
