Amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, the Israeli army on Wednesday destroyed several Hezbollah bases in south Lebanon in an overnight attack. These attacks have come amid threats from Iran and Lebanon to target Israel. Tensions have increased in the Middle East since the killing of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in an Israeli attack in Iran on July 31.

Iran announced to take revenge for Haniya's death and threatened to teach Israel a lesson. It is believed that Iran can open a war front at any time. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had also said, in view of the threats from Iran and Hezbollah, that Iran could attack Israel at any time, but Israel did not do so.

Many Hezbollah hideouts have been destroyed in the face of threats from Iran and Lebanon. After the threats, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Iran and its proxies want to bind us in the chains of terrorism. We are committed to fight them on every front, be it near or far. It is worth noting that a day before Haniya's murder, Hezbollah's top commander Fouad Shukr was assassinated in Lebanon's capital Beirut.

After the killing of Haniya and Fuad, Hezbollah also started targeting Israel and fired about 50 rockets at Israel last Saturday. However, Israel's Iron Dome foiled the attack. The fear of a full-scale war in the Middle East has increased after Iran and Hezbollah's call for retaliation. US President Joe Biden held an emergency meeting to discuss the situation in the Middle East. The US has announced the deployment of additional forces in the Middle East to prevent the situation from worsening.
