Seven new trained dogs inducted in Jharkhand Police

Ranchi, June 24 (HS). Seven new trained dogs (Explosive -06, Tracker -01) have been included in Jharkhand Police. All the dogs have been purchased from Meerut Cantt. In this regard, a program related to the inspection of new dogs was organized at the Police Headquarters on Monday. DGP Ajay Kumar Singh, ADG Abhiya Sanjay Anandrao Latkar, CID IG Asim Vikrant Minj, Special Branch DEIG Karthik S and many other officials were present.

What is special about these dogs?

-Emphasis is being given on conditioning the sneaker dogs to detect the scent of the target in the presence of external odors by using dung, urea and ash to hide the explosives.

-Latest techniques were included in the training based on inputs received from the field regarding new methods adopted by anti-national elements like hiding explosives in printer cartridges, two-wheelers and pressure cookers etc.

-Initiation of body search to detect human bombs/moving IEDs and search by sneaker dogs in post blast investigation.

– Sniffer dogs are deployed for these searches

These include ground search, vehicle search, building search, human body search and luggage search.

– Dogs are used because of their strong sense of smell

Dogs are used for training because of their strong sense of smell. Their nasal mucosa contains 225 million receptor cells. This makes the dogs' sense of smell 40-45 times better than humans. Apart from the dogs' sense of smell, their hearing ability (4 times better than humans), vision (can detect moving objects better than us) and sixth sense (can detect low frequency warning vibrations) make dogs important for training.
