Serious allegations against the daughter-in-law of the martyr's parents, know what is the rule…which is being talked about

The parents of Captain Anshuman Singh, who was martyred in a fire incident in Siachen in July last year, have demanded a change in the Next of Kin (NOK) criteria from the Indian Army. Talking to a news channel, Ravi Pratap Singh and his wife Manju Singh claimed that after the death of their son, their daughter-in-law Smriti Singh has left their house and now she is taking full advantage of it. Mr Singh said that there is only one photo of his son on the wall. The parents of martyr Captain Anshuman said in their statement that my son was martyred but everything was lost with the daughter-in-law.

Let us tell you here that the family of Kirti Chakra winner martyr Anshuman Singh is in the news these days. Anshuman Singh, who was martyred in Siachen last year, was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra by President Draupadi Murmu on July 5. This award was received by martyr Anshuman Singh's wife Smriti Singh and his mother Manju Devi. But now the martyr's mother, while talking to the media, has made serious allegations against her daughter-in-law. She says that her son was martyred but she got nothing. Both respect and money were lost. Her son is gone and her daughter-in-law is gone too.

In fact, Ravi Pratap Singh says that the criteria set for NOK is not fair. I have also talked to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh about this. Anshuman's wife does not live with us now, she was married for only five months and she has no children. We only have a photo of our son hanging on the wall with a garland.

He demanded a change in the rules
She said that is why we want the definition of NOK to be fixed. It should be decided that if the martyr's wife lives with the family, then on whom is she dependent. Captain Singh's mother said that she wants the government to reconsider the NOK rules so that other parents do not have to face problems.

According to the information, martyr Anshuman Singh's wife Smriti Sarkar is going to her home with the Kirti Chakra. Along with the medal, she has also changed the permanent address in the documents to Gurdaspur.

What the rule says
NOK basically stands for Next of Kin. This term is used for the closest relative or legal representative of a person. According to the army rules, if something happens to a person in the army, then a special amount (gratuity amount) is given to his NOK. You can understand it as a nominee in a bank.

When a cadet or officer joins the army, the name of his parents or guardians is taken as NOK. But when that cadet or officer gets married, according to the army rules, the name of his spouse is recorded as NOK instead of his parents.

Let us tell you here that Captain Singh was posted as a medical officer in the 26 Punjab Regiment in the Siachen Glacier area. On July 19, 2023, at 3 am, a fire broke out in the Indian Army's ammunition depot due to a short circuit. Captain Singh saw a fiberglass hut engulfed in flames and immediately worked to rescue the trapped people. He successfully rescued four-five people. But the fire soon spread to the nearby room and Captain Singh went back into the burning building. Despite many efforts, he could not be saved.
