In the Atul Subhash suicide case, his estranged wife Nikita Singhania, his mother Nisha and brother Anurag have been arrested for abetting suicide. Nikita was arrested from Gurugram while Nisha and Anurag were arrested from Prayagraj. A few days ago, Atul had accused Nikita and his family of harassment and extortion, after which he committed suicide. The accused were produced in the court, from where they were sent to judicial custody.
Police notice and arrest
On Friday, Bengaluru Police had pasted a notice on Nikita Singhania’s house in Jaunpur. In this notice, it was asked to record the statement within 3 days. Along with this, an application for interim bail has been filed in the Allahabad High Court on behalf of Nikita, Nisha, and Anurag.
Atul’s 23 page suicide note
Atul Subhash, who was an AI engineer, had left a 23-page suicide note and a one-and-a-half-hour long video before committing suicide. In this he mentioned in detail the controversies related to his marriage and the cases filed against him. He had accused wife Nikita, mother-in-law Nisha, brother-in-law Anurag, and wife’s uncle Sushil of harassment and abetting suicide. In the suicide note, Atul told how false allegations of dowry harassment and murder were leveled against him, due to which he was mentally broken.
Police found the house locked
When a team of Bengaluru Police reached Nikita’s Jaunpur house on Friday, they found the house locked. A day before the police arrived, Nikita’s mother Nisha and brother Anurag had locked the house and gone somewhere. For this reason, the police pasted a notice at the house, in which it was written that a statement should be recorded in relation to the case registered in Bengaluru.
Cases were registered against Atul Subhash
Five cases were filed against Atul Subhash by his wife Nikita Singhania in Jaunpur court. These included allegations of divorce, murder, assault and unnatural sex. However, Nikita later withdrew some of the cases. At present, three cases of dowry harassment and assault were pending against Atul Subhash. The next hearing of one of these cases is to be held on January 12, 2025.
Two pages stuck on the wall of the room
Atul’s body was found in a room on the second floor of Dolphinium Residency Apartment in Bengaluru. There were two pages stuck on the wall of the room. in capital letters on one page ‘Justice is Due’ While on the other page there was a list of 32 tasks which he had to complete before committing suicide. At the top of this list it was written ‘Final Task Before Mukti’,
Professional background of Atul Subhash
Atul Subhash was a resident of Bihar and was working as Deputy General Manager (DGM) in Mahindra & Mahindra Company of Bengaluru. He was married to Nikita Singhania in 2019. Disputes started between the two after their marriage, which eventually led Atul to commit suicide.
Judicial process and further action
After the arrest, the police presented all the accused in the court, from where they were sent to judicial custody. The police is investigating the case in depth and is preparing a charge sheet against the accused. His bail application is yet to be heard in Allahabad High Court.
This case has raised serious questions on issues related to marital disputes and suicide in the society. What changes are needed in the process of justice is worth considering.
