Mumbai: Amid the preparation of the Union Budget and the President's statement that many big positive steps will be taken in this budget, funds today made history by making index-based continuous highs in stocks. Nifty 50 spot crossed the 24000 level for the first time, while the Sensex also crossed the historic new peak of 79000 for the first time. Funds, experts made big purchases in IT stocks Infosys, TCS, HCL Technology along with infrastructure, cement, steel stocks including UltraTech Cement, JSW Steel and Reliance, banking, power-capital goods stocks. Sensex reached a new intraday high of 79396.03 and closed at a new record high of 79243.18, up 568.93 points. While Nifty 50 spot made a new intra-day high of 24087.45 and finally closed at a new high of 24044.50, up 175.70 points.
UltraTech Cement jumps Rs 565 to Rs 11,715 on acquisition report; Reliance hits Rs 3075
Among Sensex stocks, funds continued to buy heavily in UltraTech Cement today, with the stock rising Rs 565.05 to hit a new high of Rs 11,714.80 as the company's alleged acquisition of India Cements increased funds' attraction. While India Cements rose Rs 30.20 to Rs 293.15. Reliance Industries stock closed at Rs 3061.10 after rising Rs 33.70 for the second consecutive day to hit a new record high of Rs 3075.

Foreign funds' investment in large-cap stocks increased; 2463 stocks declined due to profit booking in small and mid-cap stocks

Total sales of Rs 23,190.70 crore were made against total purchases of Rs 30,849.47 crore. While DIIs-Domestic Institutional Investors made net sales of Rs 3605.93 crore in cash today. Total sales of Rs 30,493.28 crore were made against total purchases of Rs 26,887.35 crore.
