Sensex rises 362 points to 81921 | News India

Mumbai: Contrary to caution in global markets, Indian stock markets today witnessed a stormy rally on Sensex, Nifty based funds after foreign portfolio investors and local funds became net buyers in small cap stocks. Funds led by IT-software services, technology stocks today pushed the Sensex past the intra-day 82000 mark. While the Nifty closed above 25000. Today, there was a surge in IT stocks as well as healthcare-pharmaceutical stocks with massive buying in capital goods-power frontline stocks and consumer durable stocks attractive to GST cut on drugs including cancer. Selling in small, midcap stocks halted today with Sensex, Nifty based rally as local funds and players made massive purchases. Intra-day, the Sensex rose 637.01 points to 82196.55 and finally closed at 81921.29, up 361.75 points. While the Nifty 50 spot jumped 194.10 points intra-day to reach 25130.50 and finally closed 104.70 points higher at 25041.10.

Funds made aggressive buying in stocks today amid reports that the IT-software services industry is recovering from challenging times and companies are ramping up business again. eMudra rose Rs 70.80 to Rs 876.45, LatentView rose Rs 28.50 to Rs 492.20, Coforge rose Rs 320.95 to Rs 6808.50, Zeggle Prepaid rose Rs 16.75 to Rs 367.65, Zensar Technology rose Rs 29.40 to Rs 793.75, LTI Mindtree rose Rs 186.90 to Rs 6335, Cyient rose Rs 59 to Rs 2019.60, Oracle Finserv rose Rs 318.60 to Rs .11,238.40, HCL Technology rose Rs. rose by Rs 37.55 to Rs 1783.35, Wipro rose by Rs 10.75 to Rs 525.60, TCS rose by Rs 53.90 to Rs 4506.90. The BSE IT index rose 647.28 points to close at 43231.01.

Aggressive buying by funds was also seen again in capital goods stocks today. Suzlon NG rose Rs 3.71 to Rs 78.05, V-Guard rose Rs 14.10 to Rs 471.20, Grindwell Norton rose Rs 74.05 to Rs 2496.75, AIA Engineering rose Rs 118.45 to Rs 4364.75. Lakshmi Machine Works rose Rs 440.25 to Rs 16,374, Carborundum rose Rs 37.30 to Rs 1530, Sona BLW rose Rs 13.55 to Rs 713.30, Honeywell Automation rose Rs ₹49,891.35, Larson rose Rs 20.75 to Rs 3598.50. Funds pour in for Tata Power, NTPC, Power Grid Corp, JSW NG, Torrent Power

Funds again made extensive buying in power stocks today. Tata Power rose Rs 27.35 to Rs 445.20, JSW NG rose Rs 13.20 to Rs 744.45, NTPC rose Rs 6.75 to Rs 396.70, Power Grid Corporation rose Rs 5.65 to Rs 334.20, Torrent Power rose Rs 20.20 to Rs 1692.45, BHEL rose Rs 20 to Rs 6582.65.

Healthcare stocks rise: Piramal Pharma, KMC Hospitals, GLC, Divi's Lab, Wockhardt rise

Funds also witnessed broad buying in healthcare-pharmaceuticals stocks today. KMC Hospital rose Rs 5.69 to Rs 90.37, Piramal Pharma rose Rs 14.15 to Rs 231.25, GLC rose Rs 77.20 to Rs 1285.30, Divi's Lab rose Rs 259.15 to Rs 5431.95, Advanced Enzymes rose Rs 19.65 to Rs 468.70, Syngene rose Rs 35.45 to Rs 929.15, Wockhardt rose Rs 38.10 to Rs 1042, Ajanta Pharma rose Rs 118 to Rs 3414.85, Themis Medi rose Rs 8.55 to Rs 250, Granules rose Rs 22.40 to Rs 688.80, FDC rose Rs 17.55 to Rs 580.85. The BSE Healthcare index rose 474.95 points to close at 43836.38.

Selective buying in automobile stocks: Balkrishna Industries, Cummins, Bajaj Auto, MRF up.

Selective buying was witnessed amid reports of automobile companies announcing discounts on vehicle prices to clear stocks. Balkrishna Industries rose by Rs 108 to Rs 3077.95, Cummins India rose by Rs 69.60 to Rs 3743.50, Ashok Leyland rose by Rs 4.20 to Rs 248.10, Bajaj Auto rose by Rs 156.45 to Rs 11,001.30, MRF rose by Rs 1728.15 to Rs 1,35,712, Bosch rose by Rs 401.05 to Rs 33,475.90, Maruti Suzuki rose by Rs 115.55 to Rs 12,265.

HP's PC deal with Dixon jumps to Rs 129: CG Consumer, Titan, Havells rise

Dixon rose Rs 129.35 to Rs 12,515, Havells India rose Rs 34 to Rs 1,925, Rajesh Exports rose Rs 4.05 to Rs 294.25, Titan rose Rs 129.35 to Rs 294.25. Company price rose Rs 43.85 to Rs 3727.95, CG Consumer price rose Rs 5.30 to Rs 466.80 on reports of HP's deal with Dixon Technology unit for personal computers. BSE Consumer Durables index closed 631.14 points higher at 64973.52.

Small, mid-cap stocks surge: Small-cap index gains 854 points: 2586 stocks close positive

Today, the market sentiment turned positive due to active buying by funds, high net worth investors in small, mid cap, cash stocks. Out of total 4042 stocks traded on BSE, gainers were 2586 and losers were 1352. BSE Small Cap index rose 853.53 points to close at 56467.87 and BSE Mid Cap index rose 257.81 points to close at 48625.13.

Net purchase of shares by FPIs/FIIs Rs 2208 crore: Net selling by DIIs Rs 275 crore

Foreign Portfolio Investors – FPIs, FIIs made net purchases of shares worth Rs 2208.23 crore in cash today on Tuesday. There were net sales of Rs 14,563.35 crore against total purchases of Rs 16,771.58 crore. While DIIs-Domestic Institutional Investors made net sales of Rs 275.37 crore in cash today. There were net sales of Rs 12,429 crore against total purchases of Rs 12,153.63 crore.

The asset-market cap of investors in shares increased by Rs 3.32 lakh crore to Rs 463.49 lakh crore.

Today, the prices of many stocks rose due to the Sensex, Nifty based rally as well as widespread buying in A group, small, mid cap stocks, the total market capitalization of the companies listed on BSE i.e. investors' wealth also jumped by Rs 3.32 lakh crore in a day to reach Rs 463.49 lakh crore.
