Mumbai: In global markets, Dow Jones went up by 555 points and IT stocks Nasdaq by 402 points on an aggressive rally in the US market yesterday, averting fears of a slowdown in the US economy and the market jumped on a positive note led by auto stocks. IT stocks including TCS, HCL Technology, automobile frontline stocks including Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors as well as banking-finance stocks including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank and Reliance, capital goods including ITC, metal-mining, FMCG, healthcare, oil-funds also bought heavily in gas stocks and realty stocks, which led to a rise in the market. Along with this, broad buying in small and midcap stocks also disappointed the sellers in the market. Sensex jumped 1330.96 points to close at 80436.84 and Nifty 50 spot closed 397.40 points higher at 24541.15.

IT index climbs to 1098: Zensar up Rs 56, TCS Rs 125, Wipro Rs 21, Ramco Rs 24

BSE IT index jumped 1098.28 points to close at 41549.12 as funds, players made aggressive purchases in IT-software services, technology stocks today. Zensar Technology rose Rs 55.95 to Rs 797.90, Mphasis rose Rs 104.75 to Rs 2911.65, Genesys rose Rs 45.05 to Rs 709.45, Ramco Systems rose Rs 23.70 to Rs 393.80, Zeggle Prepaid rose Rs 22.15 to Rs 374.70, Mapmy India rose Rs 134.90 to Rs 2247.55, Wipro rose Rs 21.30 to Rs 516.40, Tech Mahindra rose Rs 61.20 to Rs 1585.10, Proteus rose Rs 86.90 to Rs 1921.45, TCS rose Rs 124.90 to Rs 4416.55, HCL Technology rose Rs 43.10 to Rs 1669.05, Infosys Increased by Rs 36.70 to Rs 1859.35.

Banking stocks rise: ICICI Bank rises by Rs 25 to Rs 1187: State Bank, HDFC rise

In banking-finance stocks, funds were again bullish buyers today. ICICI Bank rose Rs 25.25 to Rs 1187.45, Indusind Bank rose Rs 26.75 to Rs 1365.40, Canara Bank rose Rs 1.95 to Rs 107.60, Kotak Mahindra Bank rose Rs 30.80 to Rs 1778.95. HDFC Bank rose Rs 24.45 to Rs 1632.35, Axis Bank rose Rs 14.50 to Rs 1167.15, State Bank of India rose Rs 9.50 to Rs 812.45. BSE Bankex index rose 911.86 points to close at 57633.81.

Auto index jumps 1077 points: Ashok Leyland, Mahindra, Tata Motors, Bosch, Exide gain

In automobile companies' stocks today, the BSE Auto index closed 1077.37 points higher at 57823.06 as funds again resorted to aggressive buying. Ashok Leyland rose Rs 9.35 to Rs 255.80, Tata Motors rose Rs 36.80 to Rs 1098.80, Mahindra & Mahindra rose Rs 94.70 to Rs 2840.60, Bosch rose Rs 931.15 to Rs 31919.30, Exide Industries rose Rs 9.10 to Rs 495.30, Eicher Motors rose Rs 83.40 to Rs 4816.10, Bajaj Auto rose Rs 138.90 to Rs 9887.65, Hero Motocorp rose Rs 51.75 to Rs 5125.80, Cummins India rose Rs 37.70 to Rs 3761.15.

Capital Goods index 1308 gained: Velcorp gained Rs 47, NBCC Rs 9, Polycab Rs 260.

BSE Capital Goods index closed 1308.04 points higher at 72847.57 due to aggressive buying in frontline stocks also. Velcorp rose Rs 47.35 to Rs 708.20, NBCC rose Rs 9 to Rs 182.65, Keyence rose Rs 216.95 to Rs 5077.85, Suzlon rose Rs 3.15 to Rs 79.93, Polycab rose Rs 259.85 to Rs 6671.05, Hindustan Aeronautics rose Rs 107.85 to Rs 4769.20, Siemens rose Rs 141.70 to Rs 7183.60, ABB rose Rs 161.05 to Rs 7913, Rail Vikas Nigam rose Rs 16.25 to Rs 570.35.

Metal index surges 526 points: NMDC, SAIL, Tata Steel, Vedanta, Hindalco gain

In metal-mining stocks too, aggressive buying by select funds pushed the BSE Metal index up 526.31 points to close at 30838.36 today. NMDC rose by Rs 6.45 to Rs 217.40, SAIL rose by Rs 2.95 to Rs 128.20, Tata Steel rose by Rs 3.35 to Rs 149.55, Vedanta rose by Rs 8.90 to Rs 428.95, BSE rose by Rs 12.65 to Rs 634.20, JSW Steel rose by Rs 17.80 to Rs 907.95, Coal India rose by Rs 7.50 to Rs 512.20.

Funds re-enter small, mid-cap stocks, players ride broad bullish storm: 2414 stocks close positive

The market breadth turned positive as funds, players again made aggressive purchases in many small, mid cap, cash stocks today. Out of total 4036 stocks traded on BSE, gainers were 2414 and losers were 1527. BSE Small Cap index rose 901.86 points to close at 53857.09 and BSE Mid Cap index rose 838.83 points to close at 47393.93.

Net purchase of shares by FPIs/FIIs in cash Rs 767 crore: Net purchase by DIIs Rs 2606 crore

Foreign Portfolio Investors – FPIs, FIIs made net purchases of shares worth Rs 766.52 crore in cash today on Friday. There was a net sale of Rs 17,727.73 crore against a total purchase of Rs 18,494.25 crore. While DIIs-Domestic Institutional Investors made net purchases of Rs 2606.18 crore in cash today. There was a net sale of Rs 10,189.52 crore against a total purchase of Rs 12,795.70 crore.

Investors' wealth in stock-market cap increased by Rs 7.30 lakh crore to Rs 451.59 lakh crore

Funds, players rallied today with many stocks in Sensex, Nifty rising sharply, investors' wealth i.e. total market capitalisation of companies listed on BSE also increased by Rs 7.30 lakh crore to Rs 451.59 lakh crore.

Global markets rise: Japan's Nikkei rises 1336 points: Hang Seng rises 321 points

In global markets, the US stock market was improving after Dow Jones gained 555 points and Nasdaq 402 points yesterday due to good retail sales data in the United States and indications that the threat of recession has passed. Japan's Tokyo Stock Exchange's Nikkei 225 index rose 1336.03 points to 38062.67, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 321.02 points to 17,430.16. European markets were mixed. London's Futsei 100 index fell 52 points. While Germany's index rose 73 points.

HDFC Bank's contribution was the highest at 161 points in the Sensex's sharp rise of 1331 points.
