Mumbai: Amidst preparations for a major war between Israel and Iran, Lebanon, coup in neighboring country Bangladesh, as well as fears of recession in the United States, employment figures are worrying. Let us tell you, today there was a big fall in the global stock markets and an atmosphere of Black Monday was created. In which the Tokyo Stock Market of Japan recorded the highest fall of 13 percent in a day. In the Indian stock markets too, the long-term record rise after the results of the Lok Sabha elections on June 4 finally made a big reversal.
4, the biggest action since June
In intra-day, the Sensex fell 2686.09 points to a low of 78295.86 as against the previous close of 80981.95 and finally closed at 78759.40, down 2222.55 points. Nifty 50 spot also fell 824 points to 23893.70 as against the previous close in intra-day and finally closed 662.10 points down at 24055.60. Out of the 30 stocks of Sensex, only two stocks Hindustan Unilever and Nestle India remained positive today. On the other hand, out of the 50 stocks of Nifty 50, five stocks Hindustan Unilever, Nestle India, Tata Consumer, Britannia, HDFC Life remained positive. In this way, after June 4, 2024, today a big decline was seen in Sensex, Nifty. On that day, the Sensex fell as much as 6051.35 points intra-day and finally closed at 72079.05, down 4389.73 points. While the Nifty 50 spot fell as much as 1982.45 points intra-day and reached a low of 21281.45 and finally closed at 21884.50, down 1379.40 points.
Capital Goods Index fell by 3035
Capital goods stocks too witnessed a jolt after the aggressive record-breaking rally of the last few days. Hindustan Aeronautics fell Rs 1384.65 to Rs 52500.55, Hindustan Aeronautics fell Rs 105.10 to Rs 4590.15. The BSE Capital Goods index closed 3034.64 points lower at 70443.47.
Auto index fell by 2086 points
There was a wide difference in the shares of automobile companies too. Motherson Sumi fell Rs 17.80 to Rs 175.55, Tata Motors fell Rs 80.25 to Rs 1016.65, Bosch fell Rs 1550.65 to Rs 32346.45, Maruti Suzuki fell Rs 530.70 to Rs 12,200.25, Mahindra & Mahindra fell Rs 69.95 to Rs 2678.80. BSE Auto index fell 2085.77 points to close at 55856.51.
Banking stocks fall
Funds also sold banking stocks heavily today. State Bank of India share fell by Rs 36.80 to Rs 811.10 in the past week after weak quarterly results. HDFC Bank fell Rs 44.40 to Rs 1615.15, Canara Bank fell Rs 5.25 to Rs 105.25, Axis Bank fell Rs 27.65 to Rs 1133.45, ICICI Bank fell Rs 23.75 to Rs 1172.70, Yes Bank fell Rs 23.75 to Rs 1172.70. Nifty fell Rs 1.91 to Rs 23.54. BSE Bankex index closed down 1545.62 points at 56941.47.
IT stocks fall
IT-Software Services, Technology stocks also suffered huge losses today. TCS fell Rs 127.70 to Rs 4155.30, Coforge fell Rs 181.70 to Rs 5900, Infosys fell Rs 70 to Rs 1751.40, Wipro fell Rs 16.80 to Rs 485.20, Tech Mahindra fell by Rs 54.25 to Rs 1456.25. BSE IT index closed at 39200.69, falling 1429.98 points.
Reliance fell by Rs 104 to Rs 2895
Shares of Reliance Industries fell by Rs 103.75 to Rs 2,894.70, JSW Steel shares fell by Rs 36.30 to Rs 863.55, Tata Steel shares fell by Rs 8.40 to Rs 149.80, Power Grid Corp shares fell by Rs .15 to Rs 343. Shares of Power Grid Corp fell by Rs 130 to Rs 6595.15, Bharti Airtel fell by Rs 27.75 to Rs 1466. While the price of Hindustan Unilever rose by Rs 22.40 to Rs 2715.90, the price of Nestle India rose by Rs 15.30 to Rs 2509.65.
Small cap, mid cap indices fell
The market conditions remained choppy today and many small, mid cap, B group, cash stocks witnessed panic selling in small volumes as prices declined today. Out of total 4189 stocks traded on BSE, decliners were 3414 and gainers were 664. BSE Small Cap index closed down 2297.87 points at 52331.42 and BSE Mid Cap index closed down 1718.50 points at 45956.73.
Dilution of investors' wealth
There was a panic buying trend in stocks today, which led to a drop in investor wealth in many stocks, i.e., the total market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies fell by Rs 15.22 lakh crore to Rs 441.84 lakh crore in a day.
Clouds of recession loom over global markets
Global markets declared a universal recession today. Japan's Tokyo Stock Exchange's Nikkei 225 index fell 12.40 percent or 4451.28 points to 31458.42. Hong Kong's Hang Seng closed down 247.15 points at 16,698.36. China's CSI 300 index fell 41.07 points to 3343.32. In European markets, the evening market saw the London Stock Exchange's Futsei 100 index fall by 229 points, Germany's Dax by 568 points and France's CAK 40 index fall by 181 points. In US markets, evening futures saw the Dow Jones fall by 1,235 points and the Nasdaq by 1,085 points.
Reliance's share in the 2222 points fall in Sensex was the maximum of 307 points.
