Mumbai: On the global front, international crude oil prices continued to rise with Brent crude crossing the $89 level, with New York-Nymex crude trading above $85 on rising global inflation and US risk appetite. Sensex, Nifty based jitters eased cautiously in Indian stock markets today amid caution in global markets over hint of Federal Reserve cutting interest rates now instead of June. Of course, funds, players continued the wild rise in small, mid cap, cash stocks for the third consecutive day today, pushing up the prices of many stocks. A major index-based fall in the market was prevented by gains in IT-software services, selective gains in oil-gas stocks and gains in PSU stocks, especially defence-shipping PSU stocks. The funds were selling auto, consumer and realty stocks. Sensex, falling within the range of 73540.28 to 74151.21, closed 27.09 points lower at 73876.82. While Nifty spot fluctuated in the range of 22346.50 to 22521.10, it finally fell 18.65 points to close at 22434.65.

While Ashok Leyland rose by Rs 2.65 to Rs 174.25, Mahindra & Mahindra rose by Rs 13.15 to Rs 1985, Eicher Motors rose by Rs 22 to Rs 3943.0.

Oil marketing PSU stocks witnessed cautious profit-booking today as a result of sustained rise in international crude prices. HPCL fell by Rs 7.95 to Rs 474.25, Reliance Industries fell by Rs 28.90 to Rs 2942.40, BPCL fell by Rs 5 to Rs 611.05. While Linde India rose by Rs 359.75 to Rs 7237.35, Petronet LNG rose by Rs 10 to Rs 282.70, GAIL India rose by Rs 5.90 to Rs 189.15, ONGC rose by Rs 3.10 to Rs 275.35.
