Mumbai: A senior Mumbai Police inspector was asked to pay Rs 35,000 after he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said on Tuesday.
The ACB officer on Monday laid a trap and arrested Deepak Bagul, senior police inspector of Tilaknagar police station (BW 56). The officer said that the credit society run by the woman had charged Rs. 27.50 lakh for investment. The woman gave them Rs. 17.50 lakh which was outstanding. Instead of returning the amount, the woman lodged a complaint against him at the Tilaknagar police station.
Senior Police Inspector Bagul asked the complainant to help him recover this amount of Rs. 1 lakh bribe was demanded. Eventually it was Rs. 35 thousand. He agreed to take Rs. 35 thousand. On the other hand, the complainant was not given the bribe. So they reported the matter to ACB. They laid a trap and caught Bagul while accepting the bribe of Rs. 35 thousand. A case has been registered against him and further investigation is being carried out.
