World number one player Yannick Sinner has extended the wait for Novak Djokovic to win the 100th title of his career. Italy's Sinner won the Shanghai Masters title for the first time by defeating four-time champion Djokovic on Sunday.
In the match that lasted one hour and 37 minutes, Sinner won in straight sets 7-6, 6-3. Sinner did not lose a single set in his title match. If Djokovic wins the title, he will become the third player to reach a century of titles after Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103). With this win, Sinner became the first player in the last eight years to win seven or more titles in a calendar year. Sinner has won two Grand Slams, the Australian Open and the US Open, as well as three Masters 1000 ATP titles, before Britain's Andy Murray won the nine trophies in 2016. This was Sinner's fourth win in eight matches against Djokovic.
