Sehore, July 15 (HS). On the initiative of Collector Praveen Singh, to control dengue-malaria in the district, the campaign “This time we will drive away malaria and dengue by making oil balls a weapon” will be started simultaneously in the entire district on Tuesday, July 16. Collector Praveen Singh said that oil balls are the cheapest and most effective solution for controlling the larvae of malaria and dengue mosquitoes in stagnant water. He said that as a campaign in the rural and urban areas of the district, more than 60 thousand oil balls will be put in the stagnant water in the entire district simultaneously on the 16th.
More than 60 thousand oil balls are being prepared
Collector Praveen Singh informed that to control the increasing number of mosquitoes, 60 thousand oil balls are being prepared in the entire district on July 16 to give a concrete shape to the campaign “This time we will drive away malaria and dengue by making oil balls as a weapon”. The work of preparing 100 oil balls in each gram panchayat is going on at a rapid pace. More than 54,000 oil balls are being made in 542 gram panchayats of the district and more than 6,000 oil balls are being made in all the urban areas of the district.
This is how oil ball is made
The collector said that to control mosquito-borne diseases during the rainy season and to control the increasing number of mosquitoes, balls made of burnt oil – motor oil are made. This ball is made by wrapping sawdust in a cotton cloth and then soaking it in burnt oil. This ball is thrown in pits, drains, empty plots or any such place where water cannot drain for a long time.
This is how the oil ball works
The oil balls made from sawdust, cotton cloth and burnt oil are placed in the filled water and the oil oozes out from them and covers the entire surface of the water. This prevents any type of mosquito larva from getting oxygen to breathe and hence they are unable to thrive.
Oil ball will be applied on 16th July between 10am and 11am
Collector Singh said that on July 16, this will be started as a campaign in all the Gram Panchayats and urban areas from 10 am and this process will be repeated again after 15 days. The staff of Gram Panchayat and urban bodies will make oil balls and pour them in the stagnant water.
The collector appealed to the common citizens
Collector Praveen Singh has appealed to the general public to ensure proper drainage of dirty water to prevent malaria, dengue and chikungunya during the rainy season. Do not let dirty water accumulate around houses. Put burnt oil or oil balls in the accumulated water so that larvae do not grow. He said that help in controlling dengue and malaria by using the most economical oil balls.
