New Delhi: The Income Tax Department has started the process of Income Tax Return (ITR). Under this, the Income Tax Department is sending notices to the taxpayers under Section 143 (1) of the Income Tax Act. It tells whether the ITR filed by you is correct or not. If it is not correct then the reason is also given. Generally this reason is related to giving wrong information about income. If you have also received this notice then do not panic. First read it and check that you have not filled any wrong information in the ITR. If something like this turns out then file the amended return by the last date. Generally the last date for filing revised returns is December 31. However, the Income Tax Department has made changes in this last date several times.

Government has all the details

Whenever we file returns, we have to fill our income correctly. Details of all our income are available with the government in the form of Form 26AS and AIS. After filing ITR, the Income Tax Department examines it. If any discrepancy is found in the income, the Income Tax Department informs through this notice. It is also called letter of intimation or intimation notice. This information is available under section 143 (1).

  • If a taxpayer wants to get a refund on his return, but the Income Tax Department has made some changes in it.
  • When the taxpayer has to pay additional tax or interest.
  • If there is no request for refund and the taxpayer's return has already been processed.
  • This notice will let you know if you have claimed wrong deductions to save tax.

How to file amended return

If it is found in the notice that there is some mistake in the ITR filed by you, then you will have to correct that mistake. For this you will have to fill revised return. You can file revised returns as many times as you want. There is no additional charge or fee for this.

What to do if you do not receive notification notices?

Every person filing ITR receives an information letter. If you do not receive the intimation letter within a month of filing ITR, inform the Income Tax Department through email. You can also lodge a complaint on the official website of the Income Tax Department.
