Mathura, 28 March (HS). The nomination process for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections started from Thursday amid heavy security arrangements at the district headquarters. No candidate filed nomination papers on the first day. On Thursday, five registered parties including BJP and BSP candidates and 10 independent candidates purchased 20 nomination papers.
The nomination process started on Thursday in the District Magistrate's office. On the first day, her representative Janardan Sharma first bought two sets of nomination papers for BJP candidate and MP Hema Malini. In the afternoon, BSP candidate Kamal Kant Upmanyu himself came to buy nomination papers along with BSP leaders. He purchased two sets of nomination papers. Vishnu Sharma of Rashtriya Samata Vikas Party bought two nomination papers, Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party candidate bought two and Bahujan Mukti Party bought two nomination papers. 10 independent candidates including a saint resident of Govardhan bought 10 nomination papers. A total of 20 nomination papers were sold today.
District Magistrate Shailendra Singh said that the nomination process for Mathura Lok Sabha seat has started from today. This process will continue till 3 pm on April 4. He informed that the nomination papers will be scrutinized on April 5. Voting is to be held on April 26. He said that the court room of the District Magistrate's office in the Collectorate has been earmarked for all the nomination processes.
Deputy District Election Officer and ADM Yoganand Pandey said that barricading has been done even before the main gate of the Collectorate. Candidates, proposers, chief election agents etc. will be able to go there for nomination only after complete investigation. To conduct the nomination process peacefully, a large number of police forces were deployed at every nook and corner of the Collectorate.
No one was being allowed to enter the District Magistrate's office without being searched. SP City Dr. Arvind Kumar, CO City Praveen Malik and Sadar police station in-charge arrived with the police force to test the security arrangements at the enrollment site. He brought out the crowd gathering there.
BSP candidate clashed with police at nomination site
There was a scuffle with the police officers over the BSP leader accompanying the BSP candidate to the nomination site. BSP candidate Kamalkant Upmanyu told that he is a BSP official. They are going inside the DM office to buy nominations. An SDM present there said that let him go to buy the nomination. Only then SP City and CO City are considered and only then the BSP candidate can enter the DM office along with the party official.
