SEBI has refused to divulge the date of details of assets and shares declared by SEBI Chairperson Madhavi Puri Buch and her family. These details were sought by RTI activist Lokesh Batra under the RTI Act 2005. Batra said he had not sought details of the assets declared by Madhavi Puri Buch, only the date on which the declaration was made. Buch recused himself from several matters, including his investments in the Adani Group, in view of the conflict of interest.

Same as breach of privacy: SEBI

SEBI said that the details sought under RTI are confidential and personal which are provided to SEBI as a responsible regulator and cannot be disclosed under Section 8(1)(i) of the RTI Act, 2005. SEBI said that the details given to SEBI by Madhavi Puri Buch do not relate to any public activity or public interest and hence cannot be disclosed. Disclosure of such information amounts to violating the privacy of the individual. Therefore it is exempted from disclosure under Section 8(1)(e) of the RTI Act, 2005. Raising questions against public interest, SEBI has sought details from the regulator.
