Sea dug to find 160 kg gold, treasure worth Rs 920 crore found in debris

SS Georgiana Cargo Ship Downing Memory: The cargo ship sank in the depths of the sea, when its wreckage was discovered, treasure worth Rs 920 crore was found, but 160 kg of gold was not found, which was being searched. It is said that he is still under the debris, but no one has been able to find him. The wreckage of the ship is buried at a depth of 14 thousand feet in the sea.

The 62-foot long cargo ship set out on its maiden voyage. A ship loaded with treasure worth billions of rupees set sail from Scotland, but a mistake made at that time proved costly and the ship sank in the sea. The US was in the midst of a civil war and had imposed embargoes on its maritime borders in Georgia. No American ships were allowed to pass, but the iron-hulled propeller steamer Georgia accidentally entered the restricted area.

The ship sank during an escape attempt.

Union Navy ships stationed at the blockade of Charleston, South Carolina located the ship. While trying to escape from them the ship crashed and sank in the sea. The wreck of this ship was discovered in 1965. Even today this wreck lies in the depths near the port of Charleston.

There was treasure in the box found in the shipwreck

This accident happened 161 years ago on March 19, 1863. Archaeologist Dr. E. Lee Spence discovered the wreckage. Also on the wreck is the wreck of the Mary Bowers, which collided with the wreck of the Georgiana at Charleston. While searching the wreckage, Spence found boxes sealed with pins and buttons near the Georgia ship's cargo hatch.

The box was found to contain over $111 million worth of valuables and munitions, but 350 pounds (160 kg) of gold, believed to have been from the wreck, was never found. Georgia was the most powerful Confederate cruiser built for the Navy, purchased from the Navy for over $2 million in trade money.

Georgiana is mentioned in a book found in a library

In government records stored in school libraries in the United States, I found books published by the government in the late 1800s, says Spence. These books were the official records of the American Civil War, Union, and Confederate armies. One book was in the records of the US Navy. The books contained over 160,000 pages, drawings, maps and photographs. These books contained information about ships sunk in the sea. The incident with the Georgiana impressed me and so I decided to search for the shipwreck.
