According to a report, a unique battery-operated spoon has gone on sale in Japan, which makes food taste salty. Made of plastic and metal, this spoon is designed for those who are struggling to reduce salt intake. Researchers claim that this spoon promotes healthy eating.

It was developed by Meiji University professor Homi Miyashita along with other researchers. According to the report, this 'electric salt spoon' technology has won the Ig Nobel Prize in 2023. This is a platform that honors unique research.

Too much sodium intake increases the risk of high blood pressure, stroke and other conditions, the researchers said. Adults in Japan eat an average of 10 grams of salt per day, more than twice the amount recommended by the World Health Organization.

Kirin, the Japanese company that makes it, says that its use increases the saltiness of food by one and a half times. Users can choose their preferred intensity at four different levels, the company said. Launched on May 20, this unique spoon is priced at ¥19,800 (Rs 10,469.79 in Indian currency).
