The government has made a new rule to protect people from spam and scam calls and to stop such calls. The Department of Telecommunications is preparing a list of “unregulated subscriber list”. Those included in this list will not get a new SIM card for one to six months.
In simple language, this means that people whose names are in this list will not be able to buy any new SIM for the next 6 months, the purchase of SIM in their name will be blocked for a certain period. The Department of Telecommunications will soon take the opinion of all stakeholders on this matter. The government is preparing to bring the guidelines related to this new rule in the new Telecom Act.
What is the benefit of an uncontrolled customer list?
The purpose behind making this list of the Department of Telecommunications is to stop spam and scam calls, at present no action is taken by the department against spam and scam calls. After closing one number, customers are given another mobile number, but the Telecom Department has found that some people are taking 25 to 30 numbers in a month, the government is trying to deal with such people by tightening the rules related to SIM cards.
Action will be taken against those who take more new SIM cards
Now the government seems to be in a mood to crack down on those who buy 25 to 30 new mobile numbers in a month. If this happens, then no telecom company will give new SIM cards to such customers for 1 to 6 months.
This new rule will come into effect from September 1
TRAI has recently directed telecom companies to block telemarketers calling from private numbers. Not only this, TRAI has also made it clear that telemarketers who do not comply with the order will be blacklisted for 2 years and this new rule will come into effect from September 1.
