Why is this Ekadashi special for the happiness of children? Know the mythological story
According to the story described in Padma Purana, in ancient times, the pious King Mahijit of Mahishmati Puri used to be very sad due to not having children. When his subjects asked Maharishi Lomash for a solution, the sage told that in his previous birth the king had unknowingly driven away a thirsty cow from the reservoir, due to which he was not able to have a child.
On the instructions of Maharishi Lomash, the king and his subjects observed a fast on the Ekadashi of Shravan Shukla Paksha and dedicated all its virtues to the king. Due to the effect of this fast, the queen gave birth to a very bright and pious son. Since then this Ekadashi was named ‘Putrada Ekadashi’.
