Satwik-Chirag top men's doubles world rankings after Thailand Open win

New Delhi, May 22 (HS). Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty regained the number one spot in the men's doubles world rankings after their victory at the Thailand Open on Tuesday.

The Indian pair had slipped to third spot after losing in the second round of the All England Championships and then were given a walkover in the Asia Championships in China due to Satwik's injury.

They made a strong comeback at the Thailand Open on Sunday to win their second title of the season with a straight-game win over China's Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi.

In the BWF rankings released on Tuesday, he climbed two places with 99670 points and regained the top spot after five weeks.

Double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu dropped one place to No. 15 in the women's singles rankings, while HS Prannoy retained his No. 9 ranking and is the only Indian in the men's singles top-10.

Lakshya Sen slipped three places to 14th position. Kidambi Srikanth (26th), Priyanshu Rajawat (33rd) slipped one place each, while Kiran George slipped to 36th.

In women's doubles, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa are the best-ranked Indians at No. 19. The pair of Commonwealth Games bronze medalists Trisa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have dropped one place to 29th in the world.

In mixed doubles, Sathish Kumar Karunakaran and Adya Variyath moved up three places to 39th in the world and are the only Indians ranked in the top 50.
