Sanitation workers upset with the government took to the streets, huge resentment over minor increase in honorarium

Fatehabad, July 11 (HS). Terming the increase in honorarium of Safai Karamcharis by the Haryana Government as nominal, the rural Safai Karamcharis have intensified their agitation. In this connection, on Thursday, hundreds of Safai Karamcharis from across the district demonstrated at the district headquarters and sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the district administration. The demonstration was led by District President Balbir Singh and was conducted by CITU leader Begraj.

Addressing the Safai Karamcharis, District President of the Union Balbir Singh, Senior Vice President Sunil Kumar, Secretary Begraj and Treasurer Harpal Singh said that the BJP government of Haryana is treating Safai Karamcharis like enemies. The Safai Karamcharis who have been suffering from temporary jobs for 17 years were hoping to be made permanent before the Vidhan Sabha elections, but instead of making the Safai Karamcharis permanent, the BJP government has rubbed salt to the wound by giving a nominal hike of Rs. 1000.
By announcing the creation of Safai Karamchari Portal, the government has made its intention clear that these Safai Karamcharis will not be made permanent in future and will continue to suffer the brunt of temporary jobs throughout their lives. Union leaders said that the Haryana government has broken its promise by not implementing the agreement made with the Additional Chief Secretary of the Development and Panchayat Department on November 29 to give salary equal to urban temporary Safai Karamcharis, increase salary by 3 percent annually and give a lump sum assistance of Rs 2 lakh on retirement. This attitude of the Haryana government has made it absolutely clear that the BJP and its leaders are extremely anti-Dalit and anti-Safai Karamchari.

By imposing online attendance, a conspiracy is being hatched to push the sanitation workers into the quagmire of slavery and forced labour forever. The union said that now the 11 thousand rural sanitation workers of Haryana will not sit silent and will intensify the movement by sounding the trumpet of agitation across the state against this injustice and exploitation. From 12th to 17th July, protest week will be celebrated by wearing black bands and badges and taking out funeral processions/burning effigies of the government at the block level. Today's demonstration was addressed by Anil Kumar Basti, Harpal Singh, Darshan Singh, Gurdas, Jagdish, Pawan Kumar etc.
