Bijapur, 18 October (HS). The members of the Joint Scheduled Caste Committee of the district submitted a memorandum to the Collector in the name of the Governor on Friday. In the memorandum submitted, the members of the Scheduled Caste category said that Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh state is a Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe dominated district. More than 82 percent of the population in this district belongs to the Scheduled Tribes. Due to the inclusion of Mahra and Mahra castes in the Scheduled Caste category by the Government of India last year, the population of the Scheduled Caste category has increased to more than 15 percent and the remaining People of general and other backward classes reside in Bijapur district.
In the memorandum, the people of the Scheduled Caste category said that in the Gram Panchayats, Janpad Panchayats and District Panchayats of Bijapur district, the places for the people of the Scheduled Tribe category of the district are reserved on the basis of reservation in the Panchayats. Besides, seats in Gram Panchayats, District Panchayats and District Panchayats have also been allotted for people of other categories in Bijapur district, whose population is around 2 percent.
