Platform Ticket Update: The sale of platform tickets at major stations in Delhi has been temporarily banned to reduce passenger rush at railway stations during the festive season. The step has been taken in the wake of 10 people being injured while trying to board an unreserved train bound for Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh at Mumbai's Bandra Terminus.
Northern Railway has said that in view of the huge crowd of passengers going to their homes for Diwali and Chhath Puja, platform tickets will not be sold at New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar and Delhi Sarai Rohilla railway stations till November 6.
According to a report in India Today, there will be a ban on the sale of platform tickets at Ghaziabad Junction railway station till November 6. However, Northern Railway has said that elderly, uneducated and people coming to the station to help female passengers have been exempted from this ban.
Special measures for crowd management and control were implemented at railway stations.
Northern Railway has announced the implementation of special crowd management and control measures at New Delhi and Anand Vihar railway stations till November 7 in view of the upcoming festival season.
“In view of the high footfall during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals, Delhi Division of Northern Railway has implemented special crowd management and control measures at New Delhi Railway Station and Anand Vihar till November 7,” Northern Railways said in a statement. “
Additional ticket counters, automated ticket vending machines, inquiry counters, 'May I Help You' desks, catering services, drinking water and mobile toilets at New Delhi station (towards Ajmeri Gate) and Anand Vihar station to enhance passenger convenience. A holding area has been created with.
Delhi Railway Division has temporarily closed direct access from the Delhi Metro Skywalk to the foot overbridge connecting the two stations during this period.
Additionally, some trains like Bihar Sampark Kranti (12566), Sampoorna Kranti (12394), Vaishali Express (12554) and Purushottam Express (12802) have been temporarily shifted to specific platforms for better control over crowd.
Northern Railway has urged passengers to reach the station at least an hour before the scheduled departure time of their train to avoid last minute rush and ensure smooth train boarding process.
It says, “Follow the signage in the circulating area towards Ajmeri Gate. Assistance is available at the 'Can I Help You' counter or from railway staff deployed throughout the area for a comfortable journey. “We urge passengers to adhere to these temporary measures and thank them for their cooperation.”
