On the recent poor performance of Indian cricket team stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav has defended both of them. Tejashwi said that both the players have performed brilliantly for India over the years and winning and losing is part of the game. He suggested that poor form in a series is not the end of a player’s career.

Indian team’s performance in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played in Australia, the Indian team lost the five-match Test series 3-1.

  • Rohit Sharma: Could score only 31 runs in five innings, in which his best score was 10 runs.
  • Virat Kohli: Added a total of 190 runs in five matches.

Tejashwi Yadav’s statement

When asked a question on sports during a program of RJD workers in Buxar, Tejashwi Yadav said:
“Virat and Rohit have been performing well for so many years. Winning and losing is part of the game. This does not break morale. New players will come, but their contribution to the country will be unforgettable. It is not right to criticize him on the basis of his performance in one series.”

Advice from former coach Ravi Shastri

Former Indian team coach Ravi Shastri has advised Virat and Rohit to play Ranji Trophy. He said that playing domestic cricket will help both the players to get back in form.

  • Kohli: Last played Ranji Trophy in 2012.
  • Rohit: Played his last Ranji match in 2016.

Tejashwi Yadav and cricket’s connection

It is noteworthy that before coming into politics, Tejashwi Yadav was a cricketer and played with Virat Kohli. This statement by Tejashwi expresses the sentiments of a player who understands the instabilities of the game.
