East Champaran, 08 July (HS). DM and SP inspected the rising water level of Gandak river in Champaran embankment and Pucharia village on Monday. During this, DM Saurabh Jorwal took detailed information about flood and Champaran embankment from Ranjan Prakash, Executive Engineer of Water Resources Department Flood Control Division Motihari and gave many important guidelines. Along with this, information was received from Areraj SDM Arun Kumar about boats and collective kitchens built for the villagers of flood affected villages including Pucharia during floods.
During this time, Nitesh Kumar, the representative of block chief Sunita Devi, urged DM Saurabh Jorwal to construct a Jamindari dam from Izra to Dumariya and said that several decades ago, a Jamindari dam was built at the turn behind Sangrampur CHC, some remains of which are still there. The chief representative also told the DM that if a new Jamindari dam is constructed from Izra, Sangrampur, Mangalapur Bhawanipur Malahi Tola to Dumariya, then Sangrampur block can get relief from floods to a great extent. With its construction, the impact of the water of the Gandak river on the Champaran embankment will also be reduced. Thousands of hectares of land which is affected by floods will become cultivable and a population of about twenty thousand will get the benefit of this Jamindari dam.
