Safe places should be identified before possible floods: DDC

Kishanganj, 26 June (HS). As per the instructions of District Magistrate Tushar Singla, Deputy Development Commissioner Sparsh Gupta held a disaster management meeting in Kanakayi Auditorium on Wednesday. All the points related to disaster management preparation were discussed in detail in the meeting.

Kishanganj district is mainly affected by floods, due to which it is necessary to ensure availability of materials like motorboats, neopolythene sheets, life jackets etc. before the disaster time to deal with the disaster. The Mahananda river mainly passes through the district and other small rivers take the form of a terrible flood during the rainy season. Therefore, it is necessary to identify a safe place before the possible flood and prepare an emergency plan to take the people there to the place during the flood.

Rain measuring instruments automatic rain gauges have been installed in all the blocks at the block level of Kishanganj district and the data of automatic rain gauge is being sent to the department every day on time. Trained personnel have been deputed for reading the rain measuring instruments. The tender for rate determination and other arrangements of flood relief and other materials will be completed soon at the district level. In the district, the SDRF team had earlier trained the people of the community for pre-flood preparation in flood prone panchayats under the zones. This year in the month of June 2024, under the Community Awareness Program at the community, school level, zone-wise training is being conducted from June 25, which will run till July 01. DDC directed to ensure the availability of polythene sheets and boats and to make arrangements for the security and patrolling of river embankments.

Deputy Development Commissioner Sparsh Gupta along with trainee IAS Pradyuman Singh, ADM Amarendra Kumar Pankaj, In-charge Officer (Disaster) Sunita Kumari, Sub-Divisional Officer, District Panchayat Raj Officer, District Agriculture Officer, District Animal Husbandry Officer, and other officers and workers were present in the meeting.
