New Delhi, 17 October (Hindustan Reporter). Doctors at Safdarjung Hospital have succeeded in transplanting the amputated finger of a woman after 15 hours. Actually, a woman named Rupa Gupta got injured on October 9 while trying to catch her 4-year-old child. His hand slipped into the washing machine and the index finger of his right hand was badly crushed. The severed finger was attached only by tendons. There was a fracture in the middle bone. The patient reached Safdarjung Hospital at 10 pm, where after examination and X-ray, she was referred to the burn and plastic surgery department. But for some reason he left the hospital and came back to the emergency at 7 am on October 10. From there he was referred to the plastic surgery department.
According to the hospital, a team of doctors Dr. Shalabh Kumar, Dr. Rakesh Kain, Dr. Upendra Sharma and Dr. Shruti, Dr. Nupur investigated the case. 12 hours had passed, so it was decided to replant. After about 3 hours of surgical procedures in the operation theatre, doctors were able to connect blood vessels, an artery and a vein. Now after 3 days the patient is in the ward. Plastic surgeon Dr. Shalabh Kumar said that generally reimplantation is done within 6-8 hours of finger amputation and that part has to be kept safe in two bags of ice.
