Indian sprinter Avinash Sable broke his own national record with a brilliant performance in the men's 3000m steeplechase at the Paris Diamond League 2024 athletic meet. Sable clocked 8 minutes 09.91 seconds, shaving a second off his previous record.
Sable finished sixth in this Diamond League at the Charlety Stadium. At the 2023 Birmingham Commonwealth, Sable won the silver medal with a time of eight minutes 11.20 seconds. Ethiopia's Abraham Sime won the gold medal with a time of eight minutes 02.36 seconds. He narrowly defeated Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Amos Serem of Kenya in a photo finish. Another Kenyan athlete Abraham Kibiwott won the bronze medal with a time of eight minutes 06.70 seconds. 17 runners from around the world participated in this event.
Jaswin and Ankita qualified for Paris Games on the basis of world rankings
New Delhi: Men's long jump athlete Jaswin Aldrin and women's 5000m runner Ankita Dhyani have been included in India's athletics team for the Paris Olympics after securing a place in the world rankings. With the inclusion of the two, the Indian team has grown to 30. Aldrin is a national record holder and is ranked 31st in long jump. He has secured a ticket to the Paris Games by being among the top 32 athletes. Ankita is ranked 42nd in the women's 5,000m, which is the cut-out rank for her event. Ankita finished 29th in the Summer Games.
