S. Jaishankar meets Russian Foreign Minister, attends GCC meeting | News India

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday met his Russian counterpart Lavrov in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh. This meeting has taken place at a time when just a few days ago Russian President Vladimir Putin has included India among the three countries with whom he is in constant touch regarding the Ukraine war. The two ministers met during the Gulf Cooperation Council meeting.

S. Jaishankar meets Russian Foreign Minister

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar posted on Twitter, “Today I had a conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the GCC meeting.” This conversation between the two ministers took place during the GCC Foreign Ministers' meeting. Both the ministers are in the capital of Saudi Arabia to attend the meeting. Sharing Jaishankar's post, the Russian Foreign Ministry wrote, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar.

What did Putin say about India?

Earlier, at an event, President Vladimir Putin had said about the Ukraine war that India is also among the three countries with which he is in contact. Putin's remarks came less than two weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ukraine. Russia's news agency quoted Putin as saying, “We respect our friends and partners who sincerely want to resolve all issues related to this conflict, primarily China, Brazil and India. I am in constant touch with my colleagues on this issue.”

What is GCC?

The GCC is a regional organization comprising six countries in the Arab region. These include Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Qatar and Oman. It was founded in 1981 and is headquartered in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

S. Jaishankar will go to Germany from Riyadh

After participating in this meeting in Riyadh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will go to Germany. There he will meet the German Foreign Minister as well as the German government leadership and several ministers. He will review all aspects of bilateral relations. This will be his third bilateral visit to Berlin. S. Jaishankar will go to Geneva in the third and final leg of his visit.
