Russia's rapid attack on Ukraine, targeting power grid, blackout in Kiev

Russia vs Ukraine War Update: As Russia continues to attack Ukraine's power grid in recent weeks, blackouts have struck Kiev, leaving most of the country's institutions in the dark.

Since Ukraine does not have adequate air defenses, it cannot retaliate against air attacks. Russia has been attacking the power grid since March. Due to this, the capital Kiev is also in darkness. There were no blackouts in the capital Kiev during the entire first year of the war. An attack in April damaged Kyiv's largest thermal power plant, and on 8 May an attack on power generation and transmission facilities affected several provinces.

So far, more than half of Ukraine's energy system has collapsed. Many apartment blocks in the capital have been plunged into darkness. Ukraine may need more resources next winter if it can't get more electricity.
