New Delhi: Russia and Ukraine are two countries that have been at war for more than a year and till date, the countries are not ready to accept defeat and declare a ceasefire. A major and unfortunate turn in the war between the two countries came when Russia launched a missile attack on Ukraine's Black Sea port city of Odessa. At least five people have been killed and several injured, including children and a pregnant woman. The structure, known as 'Harry Potter Castle' were burned to the ground, residential buildings were damaged and the attack also negatively impacted other critical infrastructure. The attack has been confirmed by Ukrainian officials as they have shared a footage of the Russian missile attack by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Russian missile attack on Ukraine; 5 killed, many injured
As previously mentioned, a Russian missile attack on the Black Sea port city of Odessa has killed at least five people and injured more than 30, as Ukrainian officials have confirmed, CNN reported. Video footage released by Ukraine's Prosecutor General has captured the harrowing moment when multiple bombs exploded in rapid succession near the beach, causing chaos and destruction. Tragically, the injured included two children and a pregnant woman, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the attack. In addition, the attack caused significant damage to approximately 20 residential buildings and critical infrastructure, exacerbating an already critical situation.
'Harry Potter Castle' destroyed, missile debris recovered
Structures damaged in the attack included an educational institution, colloquially known as the “Harry Potter castle” due to its similarity with the iconic Scottish architectural style. As CNN reports, images broadcast by authorities show the once majestic cone-shaped towers and rooftops engulfed in flames, painting a grim picture of the outcome. According to Ukrainian officials, the attack was carried out using an Iskander ballistic missile with cluster warheads, underscoring the brutality of the attack. Prosecutor General Andrey Kostin revealed the discovery of missile debris and metal fragments scattered over a wide area, indicating the magnitude of the attack.
In other news, Crimea was also attacked by Ukraine, but Russian officials have claimed that they were able to stop the missile and drone attack; Kremlin-appointed civilian authority Sergei Aksyonov had warned of the attack. According to Russian military bloggers, the target of this attack was mainly airfields.
