Russia and Ukraine celebrated New Year amid fears of increasing war in the Middle East

New Delhi: The 21st century, which has attracted the whole world and especially millions of youth and young citizens since its inception in the year 2001, has reached its peak! Tomorrow, the new dawn of January 1, 2025, will take the 21st century’s journey through time into the Silver Jubilee year. Having the privilege of witnessing these exciting moments, various countries around the world are wishing a happy silver jubilee of the 21st century.

The world is ready to welcome the new year 2025. The countdown to welcome the arrival of 2025 has started. New Year celebrations have started in the eastern part of the world, while in the western part it will be celebrated on Wednesday as per Indian time. The celebration of New Year 2025 in the world first started in Kiribati Islands located in the Pacific Ocean, which is 7.30 hours ahead of India. After Kiribati, 2025 was observed in the Chatham and Tonga Islands of New Zealand. The last New Year’s celebration in the world will take place in the Pacific islands of American Samoa and Niue.

However, New Zealand’s Auckland city is the first major city in the world to welcome the year 2025 with much fanfare. Colorful fireworks were set off at New Zealand’s tallest building Sky Tower in Auckland as the countdown to 12 noon began. Thousands of people gathered in Auckland to watch the world’s first fireworks display to ring in the New Year. A spectacular light show with fireworks was also held at the Sky Tower, including a show reflecting the identity of New Zealand’s original Maori tribal people. For New Zealand with a population of more than 5 million, the year 2024 will be remembered for the Maori protests.

Since the world is divided into 24 different time zones, the celebration to welcome the New Year 2025 will be celebrated at different times all over the world. Before India, 41 countries celebrated the New Year, including Kiribati, New Zealand, Australia, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, some cities of Russia, Myanmar and Indonesia.

In India, from Lal Chowk of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir to Chennai in Tamil Nadu, lakhs of people took to the streets to celebrate the New Year. Security arrangements have also been intensified across the country to welcome 2025. Thousands of policemen and CCTV cameras were monitoring the activities of the people. Traffic police personnel equipped with alcohol meters were deployed at important places in all the states to control traffic and curb drunk driving.

To celebrate the New Year, people gathered at Carter Road in Bandra in Mumbai and people celebrated at India Gate in Delhi. People also witnessed spectacular fireworks in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. In India too, thousands of people celebrated the New Year by visiting God at pilgrimage sites including Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura, Vaishnodevi. Apart from this, hundreds of private programs were also organized across the country to celebrate the New Year.

Following New Zealand, more than 1 million people are believed to have gathered in Sydney Harbor in Australia to watch the traditional fireworks display. British pop star Robbie Williams became the main artiste at a colorful program organized here to celebrate the New Year. Most areas were closed as Japan’s biggest holiday season began. To welcome the New Year, people cleaned temples and houses. With next year being celebrated as the Year of the Snake in Japan, snake-related products are on sale throughout the country.

South Korea’s official New Year celebrations were canceled two days after the Jeju Airlines plane crash in Mueang that killed 179 people, but thousands welcomed 2025 at private events at various venues. In Bangkok, Thailand, two large shopping malls tried to attract people with fireworks and live concerts. On the other hand, in Jakarta, the city’s iconic Hotel Indonesia Roundabout hosted a grand fireworks display and a spectacular drone show with 800 drones at midnight.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, considered an enemy of the West, wished Russian President Vladimir Putin for the New Year. Juniping told Putin that their countries will always walk together. China has also strongly supported Russia in the Ukraine war and has helped Putin, who is isolated by Western sanctions. New Year was also celebrated with grand fireworks in Beijing.

People also celebrated the New Year in war-torn countries Russia and Ukraine, but their celebrations were overshadowed by the clouds of war. Similarly, in the Middle East, there was a lull in fighting on New Year as Israel battled Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. In Europe, the New Year will be celebrated early in the morning as per Indian time, while in countries including South Africa and Canada, the US and Latin America, the New Year will be celebrated on Wednesday as per Indian time.
