Under the captaincy of Mohammad Rizwan, Multan Sultans have secured their place for the final to be held in Karachi on March 18. In the qualifier match played in Karachi on March 14, Multan defeated Peshawar Zalmi, captained by Babar Azam, by 7 wickets. But this match came into limelight due to an interesting incident more than its result. Actually, during Peshawar Zalmi's innings, Multan bowler Khushdil Shah was bowling the 11th over. Tom Kohler-Cadmore was facing the last ball of the over, with Babar Azam at non-striker. Khushdil bowled, which Tom played towards deep fine leg. Meanwhile, Rizwan, who was keeping wickets, took off his gloves and ran to catch the ball, when he threw the ball, it hit his gloves. Which he took down and ran away.
run under penalty
On this the umpire added a total of 7 runs under penalty (2 runs escape + 5 runs penalty). As soon as Rizwan's throw hit his wicket-keeping gloves, the run went straight to Babar's team Peshawar Zalmi. In fact, the throw hit the gloves directly and the rules state that a keeper cannot leave his gloves or any playing item on the field. However, after this Rizwan was seen arguing with umpire Aleem Dar for a long time, but the umpire explained to him that all this is under the rules.
Rizwan's team defeated Babar
Under the captaincy of Babar Azam, Peshawar Zalmi scored 146/7 runs while playing first. In reply, Multan team completed the target in 9 balls already. In this match, player of the match Multan bowler Usama Mir bowled brilliantly with 2/16. While Yasir Khan played a brilliant inning of 54 runs. MS Dhoni was considered adept at keeping wickets with gloves if the ball hits his gloves, but like Rizwan, the same thing happened to him during the Champions Trophy semi-final match against Bangladesh in 2017. Then during Bangladesh's innings, Dhoni's throw hit his own gloves. Actually, according to the Laws of Cricket…this happens under rule number 28.2.1.3. After this the batting team also gets an extra ball. By the way, this kind of incident has happened before in PSL also. This was done by wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi in the match between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United in the 2019 Pakistan Super League.
Umpire's consent required
Babar was wearing Rizwan's wicket-keeping gloves. Babar Azam did something different during the match between West Indies and Pakistan in Multan in the year 2022. Actually, Babar of the Windies innings wore his gloves after dismissing Rizwan. According to Rule 28.1 of cricket, only the wicketkeeper has the right to wear protective equipment. No fielder other than the wicketkeeper may wear gloves or outer leg guards. Additionally, protection for the hands or fingers may be worn only with the consent of the umpire.
