Jerusalem, 20 May (HIST). Romania won three gold medals at the Jerusalem Grand Slam of Athletics held at the Givat Ram Stadium on Sunday. 24 teams participated in this competition.
In the women's 100 meters, Romania's Maria Mihalache finished first with a time of 11.64 seconds, just two-hundredths of a second ahead of second-place Alina Drutman of Israel.
Romania also took gold in the women's triple jump, with Diana Ion jumping 14.07 metres, just one centimeter ahead of Lithuania's Dovil Kilti.
Romania's third gold came in the women's 2,000 meters steeplechase, with Stella Rutto finishing first in 6:14.76.
Israel's Blessing Afrifa, the European under-23 champion, won the gold medal in the men's 200 meters with a time of 20.47 seconds, while his compatriot Yonathan Kapitolnik won the high jump event by clearing 2.15 metres.
Portugal's Carlos Nascimento won the men's 100 meters in 10.30 seconds, ahead of Dutch sprinter Taimyr Burnett, who clocked 10.41 seconds. Roberts Janis Zalitis of Latvia, who finished third, completed the race in 10.48 seconds.
Other gold medalists in the men's events included Spain's Daniel Cisneros (with a time of 13.63 seconds in the 110 m hurdles), Hungary's Balázs Vindics (with a time of 1:48.75 minutes in the 800 m hurdles), Apostolos Parelis of Cyprus ( in discus throw (with a jump of 62.11 metres) and Serbia's Strahinja Jovansevic in long jump (with a jump of 7.87 metres).
Among women, Pauline Lett won gold for France in the 100 m hurdles with a timing of 13.07 seconds, Gnafaki Dimitra of Greece won gold in the 400 m hurdles with a timing of 57.91 seconds, Czech athlete Nicole Tabakova won the javelin in the throw event with a throw of 58.15 metres, and Italy's Stefania Strumillo won the gold medal in the discus throw with a throw of 56.52 metres.
