Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma recently spoke openly about his performance. He admitted that his batting form has been average, but he is positive about his game. Rohit believes that his mental and physical health is good, which is expected to improve his form in the remaining two Tests of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Rohit’s honesty on bad form
Rohit Sharma, who could not play the first Test in Perth due to the birth of his second child, has so far been able to play innings of 3, 6 and 10 runs in this series. On this tour, Rohit batted in the middle order after a long time, so that KL Rahul could get a chance to open the innings. Assessing his batting, he said:
“I am not able to bat well. There is no harm in accepting it. But I am confident in my preparation. Just need to stay at the crease for more time and that will happen soon.”
Focus on preparation more than statistics
Instead of running after statistics, Rohit gave priority to his mental and physical preparation. He said:
“Sometimes statistics show that big innings have not been played for a long time, but for me it is important how I feel about my preparation and mental state.”
Rohit’s statement on Ashwin’s retirement and old teammates
Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently retired from international cricket. Wishing Ashwin a bright future, Rohit jokingly said:
“Ashwin will now be with you (media), so we will keep meeting him.”
When asked about Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, who are playing domestic cricket, Rohit said:
“We have played so much cricket together that when these players leave the game, they are missed. But we will always be friends and will keep meeting.”
Hope on return of Rahane and Pujara
Rohit also clarified that Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have not retired and their comeback is possible. He said in a joking tone:
“Rahane has not retired (you will get killed man). Pujara has also not retired. Both of them can make a comeback.”
