News India Live, Digital Desk: The way we all saw Rohit Sharma playing in last year’s ODI World Cup, fearless and scoring runs, we felt that our ‘Hitman’ is not going to stop now. There was a hope in the minds of the fans that Rohit would also play the 2027 ODI World Cup and fulfill the dream which remained unfulfilled in 2023.

But, the recent humiliating 0-3 home defeat against New Zealand has changed everything. Now cricket experts and former greats have raised a question which is piercing. They are asking: “Does Rohit Sharma have the hunger and fitness left to play till 2027?”.

Why are these questions arising?
This anger is not unnecessary. Rohit’s bat remained completely silent in this entire series. Carelessness was also visible in the way he got out.

Former player Krishnamachari Srikkanth has clearly said that considering Rohit’s current form and age, it is a bit ‘unrealistic’ to dream of 2027. He says that if you are getting tired so quickly in Test matches or playing wrong shots, then playing international cricket for 3 more years will be a big challenge.

The problem of age and fitness
See, Rohit is currently 37 years old. He will be close to 40 by the 2027 World Cup. In modern cricket, where competition is increasing every day, it is difficult to remain in the team just on the basis of ‘name’. Critics believe that now the ‘hunger’ that a leader should have seems to be waning a bit inside Rohit.

Is this the beginning of the end?
However, Rohit has retired from T20, which has reduced his workload. But it is important for him to perform in Test and ODI. The next tour of Australia will be a ‘litmus test’ for him.

We all love Rohit, but the bitter truth is that if form and fitness do not support us, then what about 2027, maybe even before that, tough decisions may have to be taken. Now it remains to be seen whether ‘Hitman’ answers these criticisms with his bat or not.
