Purnia, 1 October (Hindustan Reporter). RJD protested on Tuesday against installation of smart meters at electricity consumers' houses in Rupauli. Under the leadership of Block President Ashok Kumar Mandal, workers staged a protest at the block headquarters. The RJD delegation submitted the memorandum of its demands to BDO Arvind Kumar and asked for a ban on the installation of smart meters.
The Chairman Board said that the Bihar government has been installing smart meters since 2019 and the target is to install them in two crore consumers by March 2025. He called it a well-planned conspiracy by the government. Said that the disintegration of Bihar Electricity Board was done to benefit private companies.
Citing exploitation of the poor, the RJD leader demanded immediate stopping of the process of installing smart meters. Hundreds of workers participated in the protest.
