New Delhi, May 21 (HS). The rising mercury in the national capital Delhi and NCR is troubling people. India Meteorological Department predicts that the situation will remain like this for a few days in some parts of Delhi-NCR, Punjab and Rajasthan. Kerala is going to be the hottest state. On Monday, the maximum temperature crossed 47 degrees Celsius at some places in Delhi. The situation will remain similar even today. On the other hand, many parts of Tiruchi and Delta region of Tamil Nadu received moderate to heavy rain on Monday.
India Meteorological Department has issued an alert of extremely heavy rainfall in Kerala. According to the department, today it will be partly cloudy and there will be strong surface wind during the day, which will cause further trouble along with the severe heatwave. The same situation will continue till Friday this week. There may be some respite from the heatwave from Saturday. Heat wave will also wreak havoc in most parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Apart from this, rain is expected in many southern states. There will be heavy rain over parts of coastal and southern interior Karnataka. There will be heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The department has issued warnings of severe thunderstorm and lightning in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bengal and Karnataka.
Meanwhile, many parts of Tiruchi and Delta region of Tamil Nadu received moderate to heavy rain on Monday. It rained for more than an hour in the evening in Tiruchi city, leaving many main roads submerged and commuters facing hardships. Rain water entered the Sessions Court Police Station near Cantonment. After heavy rains, water entered many houses in Karur district.
