The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the latest Test rankings on Wednesday, in which India's wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has made a lot of gains. Pant, who played an inning of 99 runs against New Zealand in the Bengaluru Test, has climbed three places to sixth position in the latest rankings. He has also defeated Indian batsman Virat Kohli here. England's Joe Root is on top in this list and he has continuously maintained his lead. Apart from Virat and Pant, India's Yashasvi Jaiswal is at fourth place among the top-10 players.
Pant's innings of 99 runs
Apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant was the only Indian batsman to reach double figures in the first innings against New Zealand in Bengaluru. The session was a nightmare for the hosts, with India being bowled out for just 46 runs. Pant scored only 20 runs in this innings, but it was still the highest score in an Indian innings. Pant played a brilliant inning of 99 runs in the second innings, but missed his century by just one run.
Pant once again became a victim of the nervous nineties.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Pant came to bat after being ruled out due to swelling in his right knee on the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja the previous day. Pant made a 177-run partnership with Sarfaraz Khan on the fourth day as India took the lead in reply to New Zealand's big first innings score. Pant once again became a victim of the nervous nineties. Along with this, the record of being out in more than nervous nineties in Test has also been registered in Pant's name.
Ben Duckett shines in the rankings
Talking about other batsmen in the rankings, Root's compatriot Ben Duckett has moved up three places to 11th position in the list of Test batsmen on the basis of his innings of 114 runs in the second Test against Pakistan. He is now very close to making a place in the top-10 list of players. Pakistan's Salman Aga, who played innings of 31 and 63 runs in the same match, has climbed 8 places to reach the best ranking of his career.
