French train operator company gave information
French train operator SNCF on Friday (July 26) gave information about the whole incident before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. The train operator said that France's high-speed rail network was set on fire and attacked. Due to which the entire transport system became ineffective.
Attempted sabotage and arson
A source investigating the matter said the sabotage attempt was part of a large-scale attack aimed at bringing down the TGV network (Turbotrain à Grande Vitesse). This led to the cancellation of several routes. “SNCF was the victim of several simultaneous attacks overnight. These attacks affected the rail line's Atlantic, Northern and Eastern lines.
The operator said arson was carried out to damage facilities at the train facility. Trains are being diverted to different tracks, while a large number of trains have had to be cancelled. SNCF has urged passengers to postpone their journeys and stay away from train stations. The attacks come during preparations for the Olympic ceremony in Paris, which will be attended by 7,500 athletes, 300,000 spectators and VIPs.
8 lakh rail passengers affected
The president of the SNCF Group said 8 lakh rail passengers were affected. The network was ready for the Olympic Games, but now they are planning to mobilize hundreds of workers to repair the network as quickly as possible.
Train services between London and Paris were also disrupted
According to a report, Eurostar (railway company) said that incidents of vandalism have disrupted services between London and Paris, resulting in cancellation of several trains and increased travel time. The incident in France has affected the high speed line between Paris and Lille. All high speed trains to and from Paris are being diverted through the classic line today (Friday, July 26). Due to which the travel time has increased by about one and a half hours.
The weather may worsen during the opening ceremony
The weather may change during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics on the Seine River. The weather department has predicted rain on Friday. The French weather department has predicted that the weather will clear up in the afternoon, but it may rain in the evening when the ceremony will take place. Even if it rains, the ceremony will go on as scheduled.
Usually athletes traditionally march into a stadium, but at the Paris Olympics 10,500 athletes will ride on more than 90 boats in a 6-kilometre parade down the Seine River, with hundreds of spectators lining the banks of the Seine to cheer them on.
