Ricky Ponting presents the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year trophy to Pat Cummins

Antigua, June 21 (HS). Australian great Ricky Ponting on Friday (Indian time) presented the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year award to star Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Ponting, an ICC Hall of Famer and winner of the same honour in 2006 and 2007, presented the trophy to his compatriot Cummins for his outstanding performance in 2023. Cummins led his country to the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship as captain in 2023. Australia defeated India on both occasions.

He took 42 Test wickets at an average of 27.50 in 2023, scoring 254 runs. Australia won a Test in India under his leadership and retained the Ashes away from home. Cummins played a key role in Australia's World Cup success, where he took 15 wickets.

With the T20 World Cup win in 2024, Australia under Cummins have the opportunity to win both the white-ball World Cup and the World Test Championship.

The 31-year-old has continued to impress in 2024, taking 17 Test wickets at 25.64 and scoring 157 runs at 26 with the bat, as well as taking five wickets in as many T20 matches at an economy of under eight.

Currently, Cummins is part of Australia's playing XI team playing against Bangladesh in the Super 8 match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Despite Nazmul Hossain Shanto's fighting 41 and Tauheed Hridaya's 40, Australia restricted Bangladesh to 140/8 on Friday (Indian time) thanks to Pat Cummins' brilliant hat-trick.
