Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is garnering accolades all over the world for one of his decisions. Actually, today Australia has appointed Sam Mostin as its Governor-General. This is the second time in Australia's 123-year history that a woman has been appointed to this post. This is the first Australian appointment of its kind since the term of King Charles III began in 2022. This is also the first appointment by the Labor Party government of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The Labor Party government wants to replace the British Crown with the Australian President as head of state. Businesswoman and gender equality advocate Sam Mostyn has been sworn in as Australia's 28th Governor-General. This is the second time a woman has held the position since 1901. In 2005 she was also the first female commissioner of the Australian Football League. In her first speech in her new role, Mostyn quoted Quentin Bryce, Australia's first female Governor-General.

“I will be an optimistic, contemporary and accessible governor-general,” Mostyn said. “I will be committed to providing the service and contribution that all Australians expect.” Mostyn said he had spoken to all five living former governors-general, including Bryce, to learn about the role. Appointed to the Queen on the recommendation of the prime minister A Labor Party minister, Bryce was appointed by Elizabeth II and served from 2008 to 2014. The governor-general is a traditional position representing the British Crown as head of state.
