Rizwan Qadri, member of the Prime Minister’s Museum and Library (PMML) Society, has written a letter to Rahul Gandhi. In this letter he said that ’51 boxes’ of documents related to Jawaharlal Nehru should be returned. Qadri has sought Rahul Gandhi’s help in returning important documents related to Jawaharlal Nehru and ‘held by Sonia Gandhi’.
Why asked to return the documents?
He said the documents were ‘an important aspect of the history of PMML’ and were reportedly withdrawn from the museum on the orders of senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. According to Rizwan Qadri, during the UPA regime in 2008, Jawaharlal Nehru’s personal letters packed in 51 boxes were delivered to Sonia Gandhi. These letters were donated by the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial to the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (now PMML) in 1971.
What did Qadri write in the letter?
PMML member Rizwan Qadri had written a letter to Rahul Gandhi on 10 December. Earlier, he had also written a letter to Sonia Gandhi in September. Now Rahul Gandhi has been asked to take the original letter or its photocopy or digital copy from Sonia Gandhi. In 2008, this collection of documents was withdrawn from PMML on the request of the then UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. We understand that these documents will have personal significance for the Nehru family. Researchers will greatly benefit from this correspondence. We would be grateful for your cooperation in finding a possible solution.
To whom did Nehru write the letter?
Qadri has alleged that 51 boxes of Nehru’s personal letters were handed over to Sonia Gandhi during the UPA regime in 2008. Nehru wrote these letters to Edwina Mountbatten, Albert Einstein, Jayaprakash Narayan, Padmaja Naidu, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, Aruna Asaf Ali, Babu Jagjivan Ram and Govind Ballabh Pant etc. PMML member Rizwan Qadri had written a letter to Rahul Gandhi on 10 December. Earlier, he had also written a letter to Sonia Gandhi in September.
