New Delhi, April 12 (HS). There is news that provides relief to the common people on the inflation front. Retail inflation has declined to a five-month low of 4.85 percent in March. Last month, in February the retail inflation rate was 5.09 percent whereas in January this rate was 5.10 percent. The Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation has given this information in the data released.
The National Statistical Office (NSO) said on Friday that the retail inflation rate based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) has declined to 4.85 percent in the month of March, which is the lowest level in five months. Last month, in February the retail inflation rate was 5.09 percent and in January this rate was 5.10 percent whereas in March 2023 it was 5.66 percent.
According to NSO data, the inflation rate of food products in March was 8.52 percent whereas a month ago in February it was 8.66 percent. However, rural inflation has increased from 5.34 percent to 5.45 percent, while urban inflation has declined from 4.78 percent to 4.14 percent.
It is noteworthy that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), while expecting a normal monsoon this year, has estimated retail inflation to be 4.5 percent for the current financial year 2024-25. RBI has estimated retail inflation to be 4.9 percent in the April-June quarter and 3.8 percent in the September quarter.
