Report sought from government on cutting of trees for widening of roads for Mahakumbh

Prayagraj, 30 April (HIST). While hearing the PIL filed regarding trees being cut to expand roads in the name of Maha Kumbh, Allahabad High Court has summoned a detailed report in this regard from the state government. The court wanted to know what is the plan of the government and its departments. Is there any plan to save trees?

The High Court will hear this matter again on Thursday. This order was passed by the division bench of Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Vikas Wednesday after hearing a PIL filed by High Court Bar Association Secretary Nitin Sharma.

While arguing on the petition, senior advocate Amarendra Nath Singh told the court that the roads in the city are being widened in the name of Kumbh in Prayagraj. In the name of widening, 50 year old dense trees are being cut. Cutting trees will have an adverse effect on people's health during the summer season and there will be a shortage of oxygen. It was said that cutting trees in the name of development is wrong. It was said that if it is necessary for the government to cut trees, then they should be removed from there and planted somewhere nearby. But not doing so is a violation of the previous orders passed by the High Court.
