Detecting Online Fraud: With the continuous increase in online fraud and cyber crime, the Central Government has launched a nationwide campaign, recommending telecom providers to disconnect over 18 lakh mobile connections due to cyber crime.

Investigations by law enforcement agencies have identified financial fraud and cyber crime through a single handset or multiple SIM cards. Whose mobile network will be cancelled.

28220 mobile phone idle

According to media sources, investigation has revealed that cyber criminals are defrauding people by using thousands of mobile connections from a single handset. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced on May 9 that telecom companies had deactivated 28,220 mobile phones. Also, 20 lakh mobile connections have been investigated in the case of fraud related to this phone.

Only 10 percent of connections in Shankmad cases are verified

A government official said that in some cases only 10 percent of the connections could be verified. If the rest is not reverified, the connection is disconnected. This step has been taken in view of the increasing number of cyber crimes related to mobile phones across the country.

Last year there were 7 lakh complaints of cyber fraud

According to the National Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Portal, people will suffer a loss of crores of rupees through digital financial fraud in 2023. There has been a loss of Rs 10319 crore. In 2023, 694000 complaints were registered in this matter.

Scammers usually use SIM cards of other telecom circles to avoid detection by telecom companies and law enforcement officials. In such a situation, seams of Orissa and Assam circles are being used in Delhi NCR. They make very few calls from that SIM card and then immediately change the SIM. If multiple outgoing calls are made from the same SIM card, they are intercepted by the telecom company.

Last year, 2 lakh SIM cards related to cyber crime were deactivated. In which more than 37000 SIM cards were disconnected in Mewat, Haryana. Telecom companies check people using SIM cards of other circles through roaming detection system.
