The Election Commission of India has directed to remove Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta with immediate effect. The Election Commission gave this notice to the Jharkhand government on Saturday. In the order issued by the Election Commission, it has been said that he should be removed from the post of DGP with immediate effect and the charge should be given to the most senior DGP level officer available in the cadre.
Let us tell you that voting is taking place in Jharkhand in two phases on 13th November and 20th November. The nomination process for the first phase of elections has started. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has directed to remove the acting DGP with immediate effect. Sources say that many complaints were received against DGP Anurag Gupta in the last elections.
Decision taken on the basis of complaint in last election
Election Commission sources say that the decision to remove Anurag Gupta has been taken on the basis of the history of complaints against him and the action taken by the Election Commission during the last elections. Sources say that the state government has asked for a list of potential DGP officers. According to which the senior officer of the post of DGP will be given the charge of the post of DGP.
Sources said that the Election Commission has directed the Jharkhand government to follow the instructions and submit the report by 7 pm on Saturday. Along with this, the Election Commission has asked the government to present a panel of senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers by 10 am on October 21, so that the new DGP can be appointed.
Anurag Gupta was accused earlier also
It is noteworthy that earlier during the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) had accused Anurag Gupta of biased behaviour. After which he was relieved from the post of ADG (Special Branch) of Jharkhand and posted in the Resident Commissioner's office in Delhi. There was a ban on returning to Jharkhand until the election process was over. Along with this, he was also accused of misuse of power during the Rajya Sabha elections from Jharkhand in 2016. After departmental investigation, charge sheet was issued against him.
