Remodeling plan of all canals, drains and Rajbahs should be prepared: Shruti Chaudhary

Chandigarh, 03 December (HS). Haryana’s Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Chaudhary said that equitable distribution of canal water and providing water to every tail is her priority. For this, a plan for remodeling and rehabilitation of all the canals, drains and drains of the state should be prepared. Apart from this, a campaign should also be launched to clear the silt and weeds on the surface of the canals, in which cases permission of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests will be required. For this, instructions were also given to write a semi-official letter to the Central Ministry. Shruti Chaudhary was presiding over a meeting called in her office on Tuesday with the officials of the Irrigation and Water Resources Department to review the outline of the canal system of the state.

She said that from next week she will interact with all the superintendent engineers and SDOs posted in the field through video conferencing on regular basis so that information and feedback about the problems on the ground can be taken. He said that the vigilance wing of the department should be made more active. He also directed to increase coordination with the officials of Haryana State Enforcement Bureau. Where the construction work of remodeling and rehabilitation of canals is going on, there will be no compromise on the quality and as per the manual code of the department, regular sampling of the construction material should be taken and it should be tested in the lab. Minister was informed in the meeting. It was said that remodeling involves reconstruction of the entire canal whereas rehabilitation does not involve major changes but rather special repairs are carried out. The Minister directed the officials to prepare a concrete proposal to interlink all the canals of the state, which will not only increase water availability but also improve ground water recharge. Apart from Additional Chief Secretary of Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Shri Anurag Aggarwal, other officers were present in the meeting.
